Weeds
WEED TYPES AND THEIR GROWTH HABITS
Weeds can be classified according to their life cycles and basic morphology. The classifications are identical to those used to classify ornamental plant species. The two major taxa are the Monocotyledons and Dicotyledons, these taxa are further classified into;
trees, shrubs, climbers, groundcovers, aquatics, annuals, biennials, soft wooded perennials, herbaceous perennials, succulents
An understanding of the habits and types of weeds gives the weed controller an advantage in applying the correct control measure at the appropriate stage of growth for any particular weed which will aid in successful weed eradication.

Horticulturists tend to classify weeds in ways other than those previously outlined, for example many weeds are quite specific to particular environments. The Greenkeeper will be well aware of weeds of turf while the Parks Officer may be more concerned with bushland weeds. Each site has specific environmental factors that will influence the spread of weeds.
General weed classification according to sites are;
weeds of turf, garden weeds, bushland weeds, aquatic weeds, nursery weeds
