Kidney weed

Family: CONVOLVULACEAE

Genus: Dichondra

Species: repens  

Climate: prefers damp and shaded conditions and is widespread throughout QLD,NSW, VIC, TAS, SA and NZ.

Description: A creeping perennial herb rooting at the nodes

Leaves: round or kidney shaped on long petioles

Flower: flowers are small, yellow to white and are 5 lobed

Stems: are 2 – 6 cm in length

Roots: strong, deep, vigorous tap roots

Control: Hand weed at the first sign of weed. When infestation is to large to practically hand weed then chemical control is required. There are numerous chemicals available to control this weed and they should be available at your local plant nursery. The application requirements are varied for each different turf variety.  Be sure to read the entire chemical label for example, directions for safe use, handling, the application rate.
