Chilean Whitlow / Brazilian Whitlow

Family: Caryophyllaceae        

Genus: Paronychia

Species: brasiliana

Origin: Brazil

Climate: Prefers warm conditions, can tolerate some shade and dry conditions and is found widespread in QLD, NSW, VIC & SA.

Description: A prostrate annual or perennial herb

Leaves: Narrow, Hairy, greenish brown on slender petioles.

Flowers: Flowers without petals in sessile axillary clusters. Glabrous calix with reddish centre.

Stems: Woody

Roots: Deep strong taproot able to withstand drought conditions.

Control: Hand weed at the first sign of weed. When infestation is to large to practically hand weed then chemical control is required. There are numerous chemicals available to control this weed and they should be available at your local plant nursery.

The application requirements are varied for each different turf variety.  Be sure to read the entire chemical label for example, directions for safe use, handling, the application rate.
