Origin: America

Climate: Germinates when soil temperature reaches 15-18C. Requires adequate light and moisture levels.

Description: It is a coarse grass with a cluster of tillers that arise from a central part of the plant and has flattened stems.

 

Leaves: Medium dark shiny green folded in the bud leaf with very short tufted hair-like ligule.

Flower: Are clusters (Spikelets) at the end of short arms.

Stems: Wiry, strong flattened

Roots: Strong, deep, fibrous. Difficult to mow and remove by hand Control: Hand weed at the first sign of weed. When the infestation is to large to practically hand weed then chemical control is required. There are numerous chemicals available to control this weed and they should be available at your local plant nursery. The application requirements are varied for each different turf variety.  Be sure to read the entire chemical label for example, directions for safe use, handling, the application rate.
