Creeping Oxalis

Creeping Oxalis can be a common weed of sports turf surfaces, lawns and gardens.

It has an invasive creeping ability to move throughout the turf, thus making hand weeding sometimes impossible.

The control method for large and /or troublesome infestations of creeping oxalis is repeat applications of a registered herbicide for the control of creeping oxalis in your particular lawn variety. One herbicide application is generally not effective in controlling this weed. You need to have a herbicide spray program. This may entail monthly applications of the herbicide until the weed is seen to be controlled.

The turf will need to be fertilised between herbicide applications to assist in any effects on the grass the herbicide may have.

The turf grass needs to out compete this vigorous  weed. A healthy lawn can also be infected by this weed. Regular herbicide applications throughout the year will assist in control, though this weed has the ability to pop-up any where and spread throughout the lawn.

If you can alternate the chemical you use between at each application, eg use different Active ingredients,  then this could aid in a more effective control of this weed. The use of a pre emergent herbicide may also aid in control of this weed

NOTE: Gardenet does not advocate the use of chemicals for every particular horticulturally related problem, but with this particular one, there is generally no other feasible alternative but to chemically control this weed if suffering a major infestation.
