Turf Establishment

There are various ways of establishing turf grass: Seeding, Chaffing & Turfing.

Seeding can be the hardest of all tasks. The seed can be washed away, not germinate or uneven germination, etc. Lightly rake the seed bed making grooves in the soil. The seed should be evenly spread over the area using the correct seeding rate. You can promote turf grass diseases if you use a to higher seeding rate. Then lightly roll your soil bed and place a cover over the ground the retain moisture and prevent drying out.

Chaffing is evenly spreading shattered pieces of turf grass over the area and rolling them over you soil bed. Then placing a cover over the ground the retain moisture and prevent drying out.

Turfing is the most efficient way of establishing a lawn, however it can the most expensive. Prepare the soil with organic fertilisers and rake evenly (to desired surface levels minus the thickness of the turf). Lay the turf in a checker board pattern i.e. (stretcher bond in pavers). This aids in erosion control. Laying Turf

Irrigation of the turf is essential for good turf grass development. Once the Turfing, Chaffing, or Seeding has been done watering should commence. At first light frequent applications of water should be applied to the turf. As the Turfing, Chaffing, or Seeding develops then your irrigation practices should gradually change to deeper and infrequent watering times thus developing a deeper root system and a stronger healthier sword of turf.
