Powdery Mildew
Is a fungal disease that attacks a wide variety of ornamentals, a dull grey covering over the emerging new growth is the most common symptom. If left the leaf surface area will gradually discolour further and the plant will not be able to photosynthesise normally. This results in weakened plants that will lack vigour and be susceptible to further attack by other organisms.
Some susceptible species:
Crepe myrtle Lagerstroemia indica,
Roses Rosa spp,
Ornamental / Edible grape Vitis spp,
Plane Tree Platanus,
Annuals and Vegetables.
Control: - Spray at first signs of attack with broad spectrum fungicide such as Yates Maverick.
Rust:- Another common fungus that is easily recognised by the raised orange pustules on the underside of the leaf.
Susceptible Species: Fuchsia x hybrida, Annuals, Vegetables, Poplar spp.
Control: - Spray with Copper-oxychloride at first sign of disease, repeat applications every 10 to 14 days.
