Couch grass scale 

Common name: Couch grass scale

Scientific Name: Odonaspis ruthae

Adult / Nymph: Insignificant round insect covered with a waxy layer.

Metamorphosis: Incomplete metamorphosis.

Adults feed by sucking the sap with a stylet. Difficult to kill and they feed on roots and stems. Seen in Summer..

Nymphs are more easily controlled by insecticides. They are the major feeding stage and are seen in Summer.

Hosts: Couches

Symptoms: Detection is difficult unless by Laboratory analysis. They cause thin stalky turf wilting may be seen rapidly. Generally turf is unthrifty.

Prevention: Aimed at nymphal stage. Use Malathion as a soil drench
